Thinking of visiting Sintra, Portugal?
The absolutely stunning town of Sintra is just 35 minutes outside of Lisbon, Portugal, easily accessible by car or train. It’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been, and it has been described as “proof that beauty exists in the world.” How can you not add this to your bucket list?!
-
Pena Palace – Up close & personal, possibly the most famous and definitely the most visible from the town.
2. Pena Palace
3. Quinta de Regaleira – my personal favorite!
4. Stunning pond in the grounds at Quinta de Regaleira
5. Beautiful waterfall on the grounds at Quinta de Regaleira
6. The outside of Quinta de Regaleira – and of course a selfie taken with my phone timer
7. Castle of the Moors – close to Pena Palace, might as well go here if you’re going to Pena Palace as well!
8. The wall at the Castle of the Moors
9. Strolling around Sintra you’ll see tons of beautiful statues and arches
10. The view of Sintra from Moorish Castle
I took the train here from Lisbon, about 35 minutes each way, and about 2.50 euros each way. I’d recommend spending at least one night here so you can really appreciate all the castles. I toured three in just a few hours, and boy was I pooped afterwards. Each castle costs about 6 euros to enter, and there’s a public bus that you can take to most of the castles for about 6 euros for a circle around the town. There are some cafes, restaurants, and bars in the town to keep you energized between castle tours.
If you’re heading to Portugal, be sure to add Sintra to your itinerary! Even if it’s just for a day trip like me, it’s worth it to see these amazing castles in person.
